In God's Word - the Holy Bible, especially in the Old Testament, the idea of a lengthy but temporary near ideal period on Earth and perhaps in other parts of creation before the eternal period is very prominent. This period could be called the Messianic Kingdom or some of the aspects of the Day of the LORD. In this period there will be true world peace beginning with peace in Jerusalem and Israel from where the Messiah (Jesus Christ) will rule all the Earth. This period will be a period of prosperity including God reversing some of the effects of the curse of the fall of man in the Garden of Eden and from the flood of Noah. This caused directly or indirectly deserts and poor rainfall patterns in Israel and other parts of the Earth. For many if not most of these places God will enable "the desert to bloom as a rose".
The devil - Satan and demons will also be bound during this whole period which will be 1000 years and which gives the Messianic Age its sometimes used alternate title the Millennial Kingdom. Long life as before the flood of Noah will be restored on Earth to humanity due to a better environment and a better lifestyle making lifespans of several hundred years common again. In this time going along with a time of world peace will be a time of justice and righteousness with God's law the law of the land everywhere on Earth (as well as in the Heavens). The Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) will set up His Kingdom of world peace by force and take out all those who on Earth at the end of the 70th week of Daniel or Great Tribulation who hadn't yielded to Him and God and showed faith in Him. Yielding to God or placing faith in Him in the tribulation will be by helping His chosen Earthly people the Jews in the time of their tribulation in the preceding 70th week of Daniel. In this time of world peace initially only people who have by faith in Jesus the Messiah entered into personal peace with God will be allowed to enter and live on Earth.
In the time of world peace in the Messianic Age God will witness to the nations through His chosen Earthly people or nation Israel dwelling in the land of Israel. God's full blessing will be on Israel including through their witness to the nations through the worship, praise and sacrifices to God at the huge new Temple or House of God in Jerusalem. God will foremostly bless Israel or the Jews His chosen Earthly people in the Messianic Kingdom of World Peace. However God will then also bless all the other nations that have blessed His chosen Earthly people the Jews in the times of their trials, especially during the Great Tribulation or 70th Week of Daniel. Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ from this present age will have free access to the Earth and its world peace in the Millennial Kingdom to rule with Jesus the Messiah over it but will live in the Heavenly Jerusalem. This will be possible with our spiritual, heavenly or resurrection bodies.
I personally don't know how much or advanced technology will be used or allowed to develop by God but however advanced it is, it will be used far more for peaceful purposes than in history as we know it. If God does allow more advanced types of technology that we have or that might be developed in the Messianic Age, areas of use could include a solution to the energy crisis, manned space exploration or colonization as well as a solution to the world's food and health needs. There also won't be as much need for spending money on health care as God will remove the curse that causes many diseases and allow many people to live several hundred years in good health and age more gradually.
This period however won't be the same as eternity because people will still die and sin will still be present in people's unsaved natures and in their children but there won't be temptations as now by the devil and demons or evil spirits and an ungodly world system. Although some of the idealistic references to peace are just to Jerusalem or don't say they are to the whole world in the Bible. The idea is that there will be full peace going out to all the world beginning at Jerusalem.
In this very famous Bible passage, especially at Christmas, mention is made of a child being born to us(Israel and indirectly the world). This child was the Son of God Immanuel born as Jesus the Messiah or Jesus Christ about two thousand years ago in Bethlehem, Israel. Of the same person it is said a son is given. Although this is often thought of as a son given from Heaven at Jesus' birth, a better interpretation is that Jesus was God's Son given for us and our sins on the cross of Calvary. This could make possible God later bringing human beings and the world into a relationship of peace and reconciliation with Himself. For the Lord Jesus Christ the government is already on His shoulders for His spiritual people the Church. However Jesus the Messiah will also have visible government over all the Earth from Jerusalem and Israel when He sets up God's Kingdom of peace and prosperity and righteousness for 1000 years. The Lord Jesus from His first coming and probably in His second coming could be called Wonderful by the wonders or miracles He has and still will do. He can be called Counselor by His counsel or teaching at His first coming and when He rules the Earth in the Messianic Age. He can be called the everlasting Father and the Mighty God because from the time of His first coming two thousand years ago on He was and is God and the Father dwelling in flesh or bodily. However God the Father and the Holy Spirit have primary existence indepently of what way they dwell bodily in Jesus Christ. This Person as Jesus Christ is also called the Prince of Peace because His death on the cross and resurrection from the dead already won the victory over death, sin, the devil and demons and paid for our sins. This victory through Jesus is meant to bring the world to peace with God through His Son the Lord Jesus Christ (Messiah) and actually any human being if we choose or potentially even if we don't yield our lives to God through faith in Jesus. This will be true of all people who initially have access to or are allowed to populate the Earth in the time of world peace in the Messianic Age.
This scripture passage says from the time of the Messiah (the Lord Jesus) coming from Heaven to establish God's Kingdom on Earth at the end of the Great Tribulation or 70th week of Daniel there will be great, worldwide and ever increasing peace and government. This will continue in full on the New Earth, New Jerusalem and New Heavens in the eternal age after the 1000 year Messianic Age and time as we know it ends. This ever-increasing government and time of peace will be on the throne of David. The Lord Jesus the Messiah was of the royal line of and heir to the throne of King David as different parts of the gospels especially the geneologies in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke make plain. One main factor in the establishment and growth of the world peace and prosperous government under the Messiah the Lord Jesus will be His establishing it and maintaining it with justice and judgment or righteousness and justice. This will also be necessary to put away and continue to limit those who would do evil and disrupt peace other at a local or worldwide level. This will also continue forever including in the eternal age although then all unrepentant sinful people will be confined to the lake of fire. God and His Messiah the Prince of Peace and the Mighty God is not only Almighty but very determined to establish His government and peace over all the Earth. This will start in earnest with the Second Coming in power and great glory of the Lord Jesus Christ to set up God's 1000 year Messianic Kingdom of World Peace at the end of the Great Tribulation with great zeal (enthusiastic determination). The scripture passage in Isaiah 9 about the Messiah the Lord Jesus Christ the Prince of Peace bringing God's Messianic Kingdom and World Peace is as follows:
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. Isaiah 9:6-7
Those who have come to believe in God through His Messiah or Christ the Lord Jesus who are open to this in their life should not get angry or worried(fret) about the wicked seemingly in lasting and great power on Earth now. This is because although it might not be humanly possible God will realize the humbling and removing of those still persisting in their sin or wickedness at the end of the Great Tribulation or 70th Week of Daniel 9. God will then His establish the meek or those who wait upon the LORD who will turn out to be those who also by the end of the Great Tribulation trust in the the Lord Jesus Christ the Annointed One or Messiah and Son of the LORD (Jehovah or God the Father). This is when He the Lord Jesus Christ comes in power and great glory from Heaven with Church Age and Old Testament saints, angels and the glory of God the Father to set up God's 1000 year Messianic Kingdom and time or World Peace over all this Earth. Although some Christians believe otherwise, it is not the responsibility of God's chosen Heavenly people the Church on Earth in this age or dispensation or God's chosen Earthly people the Jews and believing Gentiles or people of the nations to establish the Kingdom of God and World Peace on Earth. God will accomplish this Himself when He comes to set up His Kingdom in God in the flesh Jesus Christ the Messiah. It is the responsibility to God's people now and in the Great Tribulation to witness by our words and lives to the unsaved or unbelievers that God's Son the Lord Jesus the Messiah also died for their sins and rose from the dead to give also them new life if they trust in Him with their lives and all their heart. We as believers should increasingly also preach and live according to the Lord Jesus the Messiah coming very soon first for the rapture to take all true Christians to Heaven then about seven years later to come from Heaven to establish God's Kingdom on Earth. These things are all mentioned in Psalm 37 as follows:
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shall diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. Psalm 37:8-11
Although this Psalm was originally given by King David for his physical son Solomon who would reign after him, it also applies on a grander level to King David's spiritual and ultimate Son the Messiah(Christ) the Lord Jesus. In the Messianic Age the Messiah the Lord Jesus will judge the people ( the Jews) and also the nations with righteousness and with judgment showing mercy to the poor. In the Bible mountains sometimes are symbols of nations. Therefore in this passage the scripture probably says the mountains or nations will bring peace because initially in the Messianic Age all the people of the nations (and the Jews) will be God's people and righteous and themselves having God's peace. This passage then also adds the Messiah will judge (with mercy) the poor, deliver or save the children of the needy or poor and break the control and take away the oppressor when Jesus the Messiah comes to judge the world. People on Earth will then fear the Messiah or David's son as long as the sun and moon endure which will be throughout the 1000 year Messianic Age. This Messianic Age which will end with this Earth and the Heavens including the Sun and Moon being removed and replaced with an eternal New Earth and New Heavens. In the days of Messiah's power and government the righteous will flourish and partly as a result of this there will also be abundance of peace. The scripture reference in Psalm 72 of the Lord Jesus' Messianic Kingdom of World Peace and Perfect Justice is as follows:
Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king's son. He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment. The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness. He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor. They shall fear thee(you) as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations. He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth. In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth. Psalm 72:1-7
The rule of the Lord Jesus the Messiah will not be just over the whole land of Israel but also over all the nations over all the Earth between all the seas (seas and oceans). The river described here is the Euphrates that was a boundary of the land allotted to Israel and the natural feature regarded in the ancient world as the boundary between East and West. The Messiah's rule of justice and peace well not be just in the cities but also in the wilderness or frontiers and over his enemies as will as his loyal citizens. Every one who originally populates the Messianic Age will be loyal citizens but their children or descendents might not be so loyal. This will be even though also for these descendents they won't get any encouragement to ungodliness from the world system then or the devil or demons like people get to a great degree now. All the kings of the nations will honour and be subject to the Messiah the Lord Jesus in the Messianic Age. Tarshish is southern Spain, Sheba and Seba are in Arabia and the isles or coastlands represents places like the Far East, the Americas, the Pacific Islands and parts of Asia or Africa farther from Israel. The Lord Jesus the Messiah will have full control of goverment and justice over all the Earth and special and prompt care and attention to the poor or anyone who might be even in danger of some oppression or mistreatment. Jesus the Messiah will be very diligent to exercise this authority directly or through His godly people of the Church and Tribulation and Old Testament saints who He will rule the world through in the Messianic Kingdom. An example of Jesus the Messiah ruling in the Messianic Age through his people is through the 12 disciples of Jesus (the eleven not including Judas Iscariot and either Matthias or the apostle Paul) judging the twelve tribes of Israel. The scripture passage in Psalm 72 describing the worldwide rule and merciful justice of the Messiah the Lord Jesus in the Messianic Kingdom is as follows:
He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth, They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust. The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him. For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath(has) no helper. He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the poor and needy. He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight. Psalm 72:8-14
God gave the prophet Isaiah a vision that God the LORD would establish His House, the Millennial Jewish Temple on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, as an exalted place on the Earth and for a main pilgrimage center for the people of the nations. People of all the nations will come to the House or Temple of the LORD to learn His ways and to walk in His paths or guidelines for life. People of the nations will want to do this because they will either have seen and heard God judging the ungodly among the nations and delivering and exalting the Jews or people of Israel or heard about it from representatives of the Messianic Government or previous generations in the Messianic Age. God will accomplish this by having Jerusalem as the place from where His law and word will proceed out to the people of the nations especially from His House or Temple there. God also promises to judge among the nations and destroy all their weapons and turn some of the material from them into instruments of agriculture or other peaceful trades. God also promises that in His government and without the influence of the devil or demons man will not learn war any more and so war will not disrupt or threaten the 1000 year worldwide continual peace of the Messianic Kingdom. God finally urges the House of Jacob the people of Israel to walk or live in His light or ways and glory. The scripture reference from Isaiah 2 of God opening access to Himself and His Temple and law to the nations, destroying ability or desire to make war and calling Israel to walk in His glory is as follows:
The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among the nations, and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nations shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD. Isaiah 2:1-5
